6 Amazing Oils For Oily and Acne Prone Skin

6 Amazing Oils For Oily and Acne Prone Skin

Hey Natural Beauties,

Most people think those with oily and acne prone skin, should avoid oils.  That's not true.   Oils can work wonders in balancing your oil production, eliminating dirt from your clogged pores and controlling your blemishes and outbreaks.

We are going to look at six of these oils.  Let's get to it Beauties,

1)  Jojoba

Jojoba is not a true oil, but rather a liquid wax.

  • Its a non-comedogenic (not pore clogging) which is important for those with acne prone skin.
  • The chemical composition of Jojoba closely resembles the sebum (oils) found in our skin.
  • It can help balance your oil production, eliminate excess dirt and oils from your pores.
  • A word of caution, it can cause 'purging', a break out on the skin.  This doesn't happen to everyone and it is temporary.  Think of purging as your skin dumping its garbage.

2) Meadowfoam Seed Oil

This flower grows in Vancouver. The oil is made by crushing the seeds (called the cold press process).

  • has some of the same acids found in Jojoba Oil, but has a lighter feel.
  • It does not cause the 'purging' that occurs with Jojoba Oil.
  • It does non-comedogenic (meaning that it will not clog pores).
  • Contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant substances such as vitamin C and vitamin E, to help with the skin repair.

3) Borage Oil

Borage Oil is an amazing oil derived from cold-pressing the seeds of this blue flower.

  • This oil contains  stearic acid, which can with moisture retention, flexibility of the skin, and skin repair.
  • The oleic acid offers moisturizing, cell regenerating, and softening to our skin. And the linoleic acid will help restore barrier function of our skin, and acts as an anti-inflammatory that can soothe dry skin and itchiness.
  • Borage contains one of the highest amount of GLA (gamma-Linolenic acid) found in plant oils.  GLA helps with inflamed skin.  It reduces inflammation, itchiness, and irritation to helps restore the skins natural barrier.

  • This oil also contains, Ferulic acid which is an anti-oxidant more powerful than Vitamin E.  It can prevent skin aging, reducing age spots, and helps repair light and radiation induced damage.

4) Rosehip Oil

There are two types of Rosehip oil.  One pressed from the fruit, the other pressed from the seeds.  The Rosehip Oil, we use is pressed from the seeds.  Rosehip Seed Oil, is a lighter oil with more GLA.  Here are some additional benefits to Rosehip Seed Oil,

  • Rosehip Carrier Oil has skin brightening properties that help restore skin’s natural color and tone while lightening any unwanted dark blemishes.  This is due to the natural beta-carotene found in its oil.

  • Similar to Borage Oil, Rosehip Seed oil also contains GLA.  This helps reduce inflammation, itchiness and general skin irritation.
  • A word of caution!!! do not use Rosehip seed oil at 100%.  This can cause aggravate acne in some people  and cause a sensitivity to the sun. Rosehip seed oil should be used in a blended product.

5) Grapeseed Oil

This fruit is both delicious and great for your skin.

  • Grapeseed Carrier Oil tightens and tones the skin, protects against sun damage, and reduces the appearance of blemishes, wrinkles, and stretch marks.
  • Used on skin, Grapeseed Oil cleanses the pores and balances oil production, thereby reducing future acne breakouts.
  • Used in hair, Grapeseed Carrier Oil contributes to its softness and smoothness while promoting its growth.
  • Used medicinally, Grapeseed Carrier Oil boosts circulation and reduces the appearance of varicose veins and cellulite while soothing tired muscles and boosting immunity.

Brighten Your Skin with Vitamin C

Brighten Your Skin with Vitamin C

Hey Natural Beauties!  Today's subject is Vitamin C.  This vitamin is commonly included in skin care formulas because of the amazing benefits it has in enhancing the look of your skin.  There's a lot to know about this mighty vitamin.  Lets dive in!

What is it?

Vitamin C is a naturally occurring vitamin.  You eat it in your fruits, foods and other fortified products.  Its also included in skincare products.  The most common forms found in skincare formula are L-Ascorbic Acid, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Ascorbyl Palminate, and Retinyl Ascorbate.

Sadly vitamin C is not stable in products that contain water (such as lotions, creams, toners,  etc).  It's potency tends to decline when exposed to oxygen.

For this reason, we use natural forms of Vitamin C, such as Amla (Gooseberry), Orange Peel, and Guava.  We use it in a natural powdered form to ensure the strongest potency over the life of the product.

What does it do for our skin?

  • It can regenerate and strengthen collagen.  Collagen is a natural skin fiber that reduces as we age, contributing to fine lines and wrinkles.  Vitamin C strengthens collagen which helps to smooth the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
  • It helps with hyper-pigmentation (dark spots and blemishes).  It naturally inhibits the enzyme responsible for these dark spots.
  • It is great for repair of skin tissue.  This includes helping with acne.  It is a natural antioxidant which helps protect the skin from the bacteria that causes this condition.

What type of Vitamin C ingredients do we use:

We use natural sources of vitamin C such as

  • Amla Berry (Indian Gooseberry): a common ingredient in Ayurvedic.  Has more Vitamin C than an orange, in addition to other vitamins, minerals and antioxidants
  • Guava Fruit Powder rich in Vitamin A (precursor to Retinol) and vitamin C as well as antioxidants.
  • Orange Peel Powder has more vitamin C than the fruit itself!

We use the raw powders, with no water added.  No water means the Vitamin C will retain its potency.

Our Vitamin C product:

Clarifying Mask with Turmeric, Guava and Orange Peel

  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Great for acne and blemished skin
  • Great for hyper-pigmentation
  • use 1 to 2 times per week.  Add water and make into a paste.  Smooth upwards over face and neck area.  Let dry for 5 to 10 mins.  Rinse well.  Follow with a Serum.

Hey Natural Beauties,

All Vitamin C can make some people more sensitive to UV rays.  As with all citrus it can be sensitizing.

Its best to use any vitamin C products during your night time routine.

Remember, always do a patch test as some people have allergies and sensitivities to different things (including nature).
